In The News: May 2018

It’s been a fast-paced month for the GenCanna™ team, with preparation for summer farming underway and the advocacy for national hemp legalization continuing every day. Some highlights this month included the official opening of a new office facility in Winchester, KY, a media feature on National Public Radio, new GenCanna™ product offerings, and an evening with the local community for a great cause with the Muscular Dystrophy Association.  Happy Hemp History Week, don’t forget to make your voice heard by visiting

GenCanna™ celebrated its continued growth and expansion with the official opening of a new office facility in Winchester, KY.  A milestone for the company’s development, the extension re-affirms the value added to the community by GenCanna’s 100+ jobs created and $50m in economic impact in the state over the last 4+ years.  Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles attended the event saying, “We’re proud of GenCanna’s continued expansion and success, as the industrial hemp research pilot program continues to grow. Today’s announcement is proof that it’s time to legalize industrial hemp so we can harness the crop’s true economic development potential.”

GenCanna™ was featured on a nationally syndicated NPR program called "The Pulse.”  The episode includes an interview with President Steve Bevan, where he discusses the hemp industry in Kentucky and Pennsylvania.

Starting a new brand can be difficult, and often times the cost for entry is prohibitive with minimum order sizes and unrealistic expectations.  That’s why we created the Quick Start Program, so even the smallest order sizes can be managed for your growing business.

GenCanna™ was proud to sponsor “For Children’s Sake,” an exclusive event for the Muscular Dystrophy Association in partnership with Montessori High School.  The benefit gala raised money and awareness for the MDA, and featured a presentation from GenCanna's Garrett Bain.  In the silent auction, GenCanna™ even brought home the halter from Kentucky Derby winner California Chrome!

Update On Hemp Regulation

  • KY Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles sent out a letter to Ag America’s membership, urging this important group to solicit the support of their Members of Congress for the Hemp Farming Act of 2018, which would permanently legalize hemp and hemp products. This influential association of elected and appointed officials have the ear of the representatives in Washington, particularly on agriculture-related issues.

  • Missouri Governor Eric Greitens signed HB 2034, into law. The bill will establish Missouri as the latest state to legalize hemp and develop a Farm Bill-authorized hemp program.

  • Many of the issues faced by the hemp industry can be addressed once and for all by passage of the Hemp Farming Act of 2018, which would permanently legalize hemp. Please click the button below to use the US Hemp Roundtable portal to contact your Members of Congress.
